Looking for Valentine's Day gift ideas? This year try a different approach - themed presents. Any girlfriend or spouse will love these romantic gifts.

Every man in America, and maybe the entire Western world, knows that a woman wants romantic gifts on Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, most men wait until the last minute and then resort to the Valentine standby of flowers and candy.

Themed Gifts for Women

Themed gifts are a series of related and unique gifts, each adhering to a particular point of interest. These gifts do not have to be store-bought. In fact, some of the most romantic Valentine's Day gifts for women come from the heart - not from a store.

How to Choose Themed Presents

The first step in creating a set of themed gifts is to pick a theme. Try to identify one of her favorite hobbies or interests. Does she attend a lot of opera? Does she have a favorite color of clothing she wears every day? Maybe she constantly strikes up conversations about outdoor scenery? Almost any theme will work as long as it is something she enjoys.

The next step is deciding on the romantic Valentine gifts that match the chosen theme. Try to make the gifts satisfy the 5 senses – touch, smell, sight, hearing, and taste. To help a series of themed gifts, a sample list of themes is found below. Each list assumes the entire day or evening is dedicated to her pleasure (always a good idea). Additionally, each list contains specific items that focus on one or two of the 5 senses.

The final step is to present the gifts and reap the benefits.

Nature and Outdoors Theme

For the girlfriend who is a nature lover, an outdoor motif is always a winner. A nature or outdoors theme generally requires a commitment of an entire morning or afternoon.

  • Take her for a hike in the woods (sight).
  • Have a picnic with berries, nuts, and fruit (taste).
  • Learn the local flora and search for aromatic plants during the hike (smell).
  • Gather interesting pine cones, rocks, etc. (touch).
  • Choose a spot to sit and listen to the sounds of nature (hearing).

Water Theme

Water may seem commonplace and boring, but it is a very versatile theme that can be tailored to fit any situation. For example:

  • Drive her to the ocean, or perhaps a secluded river or waterfall (sight and hearing).
  • Find the nearest business offering a water massage (touch).
  • At dinnertime, provide her with a glass of sparkling water with submerged orange slices (taste).
  • Pour her a bath filled with aromatherapy salts (smell).

Relaxation and Intimacy Theme

Many busy women would like nothing more than to have their boyfriend provide them with a day of relaxation and intimacy. The living room is an ideal location for creating a haven from the outside world.

  • Hang a set of string lights from the ceiling and turn the house lights off (sight).
  • Open a bottle of her favorite wine (taste).
  • Put on some soft music (hearing).
  • Fill the room with her favorite fragrance using candles or potpourri (smell).
  • Have her sit on the couch and give her a long and gentle massage while she drinks her wine and listens to the music (touch).

Color Theme

Much like water, color is a very versatile choice of themes. Simply choose a color (such as blue in the example below) and coordinate all gifts accordingly.

  • Make her blueberry pancakes for breakfast (taste).
  • Get her a set of blue flannel pajamas (touch).
  • Buy her a bouquet of blue flowers – a symbol of love and desire (smell).
  • Rent the movie My Blue Heaven, The Blues Brothers, etc. (sight).
  • Make her a mix tape filled with “Blue Moon”, “Moody Blue”, “Blue Bayou”, etc. (hearing).

Themed gifts offer men in relationships a chance to create a lasting romantic memory. As shown in the examples above; any theme can lend itself to the 5 senses of touch, hearing, smell, sight, and taste. So choose a theme, use a little artistic license to create the themed presents, and create some Valentine's Day gifts that will never be forgotten.
