Following the monumental success of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Starz quickly began plans for a second season to be known as Spartacus: Vengeance (Spartacus Season 2). Unfortunately, the original Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) developed cancer and died in 2011. To help fill the gap between the time a new Spartacus could be found and the second season of Spartacus could be filmed, Starz created a prequel to Blood and Sand known as Spartacus: Gods of the Arena. Thankfully, the second season of Blood and Sand is now ready to air with Liam McIntyre in the lead role.
Fresh from their bloody escape from the House of Batiatus at the end of Blood and Sand, the gladiators continue their rebellion in Spartacus: Vengeance. Gaius Claudius Glaber and his not-so-great Roman troops head to Capua to squash the rebellion and gain political power in the process. Spartacus strives to hold his mixed bag of freed slaves and former gladiators together while intrigue and personal vendettas threaten to tear them apart.
